System Analysis - I came to JEB
in 2004 as the System Analysis. The
responsibilities of the System
Analysis are to integrate the Xerox
multifunction equipment into the
customer’s present network. A fully
integrated system will allow the
customer to print, and fax from the
desktop. Additionally from the
multifunction system the customer
can copy, fax, scan to email, scan
to a PC, scan directory to a
repository. The assignment required
proficient knowledge of network
operating systems and working
closely with the sales
representative and customers.
-
Sales Manager -
In 2005
I was offered the sales manager
position. During this period I
retained the responsibilities of the
System Analysis while assuming the
responsibilities of the sales
department.
-
Services Manager -
In 2006
I was offered another assignment as
the Service Manager. The Service
Department needed restructuring as
it was not providing the required
support to the Sales Department. Not
wanting to lose the focus on
integrating the multifunction
equipment the responsibilities for
equipment integration and other
software implementation was
transferred to the Service
Department and so the Department was
renamed the, “Service and Support
Department.”

Academic Achievements -

my tenure as Sale Manager I
participated in several product

I
commenced employment with J E
Bergasse & Co Ltd. on July 27, 1998
as the Accounts Officer in the
insurance department. This
department then consisted of only
one cashier and myself. The tasks
assigned to me appeared challenging,
but I quickly mastered these, having
the experience of my previous job
and a wealth of knowledge gained
from a diploma programme with the
Association of Accounting Technician
(AAT), which I had just recently
completed.
With passing time my duties
increased and became quite diverse.
I then felt the necessity to expand
my knowledge of accounting; hence I
decided to pursue the Association of
Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA),
with the company as my sponsor.
In 2003 the insurance department
restructured and the Accounts
department increased to four staff
members; I became the supervisor of
that department. I am very
enthusiastic about my duties as the
knowledge and skills acquired from
my ACCA studies have served me well
enabling me to function more
efficiently.
It has been very challenging trying
to balance family, work and studies,
but it has also proven to be
extremely self-rewarding.

I
commenced working with the firm of
J.E.Bergasse & Co. Ltd straight from
secondary school in 1978.
I was
employed as a typist in the
insurance department, but after some
time I became bored and felt that I
was capable of doing something more
constructive. I was introduced by a
friend to long distance insurance
courses that I completed, but seeing
there was no scope for personal
development, after two years, I
resigned and became employed with
another insurance company where I
was employed as an
underwriter/typist.
After
two years I got information that J.E
Bergasse was looking for an
underwriter. I applied and got
re-hired in 1982 as an underwriter
for general insurance with NEMWIL
Insurance who we were agents for at
that time.
I was
sent by NEMWIL on insurance training
at the Academy of Insurance in
Trinidad where I acquired my first
insurance certificate. After the
training ended, I got hands on
training at our Head Office in
Trinidad, and over the years
attended other refresher courses.
After
these training sessions, I realized
that there was potential in the
insurance industry, and I decided in
furthering my insurance career. With
the encouragement of the deceased
Mr. Peter Bergasse, the then
Chairman, NEMWIL agreed to pay all
insurance courses for me. During
this period, between starting a
family and studying for exams with
Chartered Insurance Institute of
London, I obtained the Certificate
of Proficiency in 1989.
I also
obtained further certificates with
the St.Lucia Insurance Institute for
completing insurance courses in
1992, 1993 and 1995.
When
J.E Bergasse & Co. Ltd were no
longer agents for NEMWIL, I became
the Underwriter for Property and
Accident classes of insurance, while
assisting with the Motor portfolio
when necessary.
I
continued my studies with the
Chartered Insurance Institute, which
was now being paid for by J.E.
Bergasse & Co. Ltd. I acquired the
Certificate of the Chartered
Insurance Institute whereby I was
entitled to use the designatory
letters of CERT CII. I am a
qualified member of the Chartered
Insurance Institute of London, and
also member of the Faculty of
Underwriting of the Chartered
Insurance Institute.
I
decided to pursue the next level in
insurance qualifications and
continued my studies with The
Chartered Insurance Institute, which
was also being sponsored/paid by J.E.
Bergasse & Co. Ltd. After much
studying, passes, disappointments
and frustrations, I acquired the
Diploma of the Chartered Insurance
Institute whereby I was also
entitled to use the designatory
letters of DIP CII.
I am
currently studying for the Associate
of the Chartered Insurance
Institute. Although still being an
Underwriter I am happy that I have
been able to achieve these
qualifications, and I am grateful to
J.E. Bergasse & Co. Ltd for
affording me this opportunity.
It is my intention to further my
career in the insurance industry in
the near future.
